Attributional Tendencies - Cultures

As we are Human beings, we can fail because we are not perfect, that is why we are always trying to hardly understand why something happened in that way or how to improve it. It is something about people's psyche, and we act unconsciously about these Attributional tendencies. Attributional tendencies are inferences we make upon something that happened to us, a problem or behavior, it is, in other words, the cause we find for a problem. This is another important aspect of culture; Attributions vary in all countries. Americans make Internal attributions when they do something good, and an external attribution when something negative happens and we attribute that failure to others because it is due to their fault and not ours. We all need to take care of our Attributions, our inferences of the things and experiences we have to live. People need support in these cases, especially students, who are trying hard to understand life experiences. Assessments in class and students

Personal space Differences

All people need their space to be free and without strangers.  Personal space is another of many cultural paradigms varying around the world from country to country. Privacy Space comes first above all because it provides people stability and mental health.  As this aspect of personal life changes depending on the country's paradigms, we can feel like strangers when we face a space situation and we are not conscious about it.  I think we all have Space rules, they could be applied in public regarding, for example, the traffic, personal objects, or even the centimeters people stand when talking near to you.  In Latin America people have a special feeling for their objects, you will always need an agreement first to use the personal objects of other people, this is an example of a big misunderstanding between two people who are from different cultures.  After all this, the best thing we can do is to observe others, ask and copy them. As social beings, we need to respect this importan

Individualism vs. Collectivism

Cultures change across the world. The world has changed and how people live in it, as well. This week I have learned about Collectivism and Individualism in Cultures, and the differences of both behavioral characteristics are huge. China is a country that "Sacrifice creativity, originality, divergent thinking, and Individualism". It has a remarkable economic status but it lacks so many other important aspects, and one of them as I said before is: Individualism. Yong Zhao who is a presidential member and a professor at the University of Oregon believes in changing the reality of His country, China. Instead of having standards without creativity and autonomy, he prefers developing a new educational system, oriented to the individualism of students and their autonomy. As a society, we learn and have grown with adults' principles and ideas, we acquire them unconsciously. Culture plays an important role in people's behavior. Some countries or organizations live upon Indi

The way people express their emotions depends on their Culture

Do you know culture paradigms change from country to country? We have so much in common but most of the way we react to situations is due to our paradigms influenced by our culture. There are people in countries that show a low expressivity tolerance and others showing a higher expressivity tolerance, most of the "low expressivity" are Hispanic countries. If we ever had the opportunity to travel to another country and meet people from other cultures, we can see huge differences in the way people react, and that might lead to misinterpretation even if as individuals we show expressions differently because of each person's paradigms. Even if you and I have different opinions, the way of how we will deliver our message can change, because of how we were raised, because it is something that we acquired generations ago. Don't worry if some people tell you something in a bad way, maybe it is all ok but as you have different paradigms and cultures you see that pe
16/10/2021 - Week 05 Response to "Culture Differences Concerning Time" Do you know that what is something that differentiates cultures? Time. Yes, time. There exist two types of time which are Monochromic time known as M-time and Polychronic time. Let start by explaining both of them separately and see the differences between cultures when it comes to time. Cultures can prioritize different things, for example, time and people relationships. This is interesting to understand and learn, especially when we are in contact with people and we don't understand some decisions when it comes to time or money, but if we take time to learn about each culture misunderstandings could be avoided. In Monochronic countries, such as in The United States, habitants prioritize the value of time over people relationships. For United States' people, time is not something to waste, so they consider it so important, whereas Latinos enjoy more time and relationships like their Family. M-Tim
16/10/2021 Week 05: Response to "Culture Paradigms" Hello readers, welcome one more time to my Blog.  For this opportunity, I will share some thoughts about this week's topic:  "Cultural Paradigms". I have learned a lot this week, I have new insights about what Paradigms are. I am impressed about how they can affect others and also our behaviour.  Like Professor Ivers explained, paradigms are Interpretations, interpretations of the world around us. Cultures determine our interpretations of all things, we can learn a lot from one culture different from ours and we will see all things differently, they are vast. I can imagine a classroom with students from different cultures, and I think my classroom could be amazing, full of rich activities and shared experiences and information from each student all the time. That is something unique because we will be able to learn from one another, we are so blessed when we have the disposition to learn from others. Professo

TESOL Course – Is the Great American Teacher Dead?-

24/09/2021; Week 02: Response to “Is the Great American Teacher Dead?” Professor John J. Ivers from the Brigham Young University ID delighted us this time with this simple but important meaningful thought about teaching, “are the Great American Teacher Dead”? His instruction around this single question let me think a lot as I am an English student, L2 learner and future TESOL teacher. Sometimes we can have misconceptions about what happens with students, why we do not get better results on them and how to change that reality. Throughout this article, I learned and reflected on so many new things, for my future position, as a referent of the class, a teacher. Ivers shared that the “ delivery ” will be something that marks the difference, How we deliver a message or what we want to communicate to students change everything “ education is more than just exposing people to the facts. It is an acquisitional process that without the proper delivery system, tends to fall …”. When teaching we
